Got tired quick!
It was real warm when we got there. Katie had her sun screen on and a hat but the hat didn't last long because of the heat.
In fact Katie didn't last long either because of the heat. She was out and had a nice nap despite all the noise and excitement.
Stopped in the kids area but only the sandbox and this tunnel really seemed like things Katie was big enough for. And she was kind of scared of the tunnel.
Mainly just sat there in the grass watching the other kids crawl through.
Her friend Derick showed up though and tried to entice her to come through.
Didn't really help, she still just stayed on the outside.
Half a second later the kid coming out of the tunnel fell and slapped Katie on the back as he went down. Didn't hurt or bother either of them but his mom sure was worried for Katie!
The petting zoo was kind of interesting. Mostly goats.
She wasn't very interested in petting goats.
This was the smart goat, sat right under the food dispenser. Only got up when someone actually put a quarter in :)
"Goats? Really mom and dad? Can't you do any better?"
Ahh, now that looks soft and petable. We think it was an alpaca. Looked like a llama but smaller and didn't spit at anyone.
Don't let the goat eat me mom!
Yeah that's almost as soft as the dog!
Must be an alpaca with nice fur like that.
Time for Katie's first ride!
We both wanted to take her but one of us had to take photos.
I figured mom would do better calming her down if she didn't enjoy it and opted to run the camera.
She didn't look that excited on it for the most part.
But she wasn't upset either.
Think she could get used to this.
After the ride she was happier than she had been the entire day up to this point. Afterwards she kept talking and waving at people - before she had just been kind of zoned.
In fact she was happy enough we figured we'd stop and let her try the sandbox before heading to the demo derby.
This was probably a bad call for a couple of reasons. Main one being while we were playing the stands filled up and we ended up not finding seats for the derby.
Other problems were Katie wasn't quite sure how to play in the sand despite other kids to watch.
Big problem though was after chewing on the shovel she dropped it in the sand...then picked it back up and put it right back in her mouth.
Ick, mouth full of sand. Though after getting over it she seemed to want another mouth full of sand. I bet she'll do great in the sandrail when she's older :)
Ok, we did find seats for the derby. But they were real low seats with no view, looking into the setting sun and on the opposite side from all our friends.
And Katie was now worked up and wanting to play so we ended up not keeping our seats. It then got dark out quick and since we didn't bring the tripod no more photos. But a great first day at the fair!
